Arriving to Moscow from the East?
Below are some suggestions for routes to reach Moscow that take you off the highways and will highlight some amazing views and memorable historic sites.
KENDRICK/TROY - Take ID7 in Orofino (ID7 becomes P1) up the Orofino Grade and over to Kendrick. From Kendrick, follow ID99 to Troy and the onto Moscow via ID8.
PIERCE - Add some great scenery of the North Fork of the Clearwater River as well as some Idaho Gold Rush history by taking ID11 at Greer and following this up the "Twisty Grade" to Pierce and continuing onto Headquarters. Take a left on Grangemont Road (clearly marked intersection to Orofino). Grangemont Road intersects with ID7 just before the bridge leading out of Orofino and you can reconnect with the traditional route to Moscow. (Please note: Most maps show the pavement ending at Headquarters, but there are paved forest development roads from Headquarters over to the North Fork of the Clearwater River - where you will find campgrounds/picnic areas.)
ELK RIVER (via the Dent Bridge) - Right after turning onto ID7, follow the signs to Elk River via the Dent Bridge. This bridge is a suspension bridge over the Dworskak Reservoir. In Elk River, pick up ID8 and follow it to Moscow. (Please note: The road is paved to just past the bridge and then is well maintained compacted gravel until Elk River. If you do not wish to drive on gravel, do not take this route.)
DEARY - Add some additional scenery, follow the route to Kendrick and then follow ID3 to Deary where you can pick up ID8 to Troy and onto Moscow.
